Frequently asked questions

How do I create a new drawing or start from an existing image?

Choose File ▸ New (⌘N) and pick a preset canvas size or enter your own. To start from a picture, choose File ▸ Open… (⌘O) and select a PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, HEIC, WebP, or SVG file — it opens as a new document with the canvas sized to fit. You can also click Open Image in the Welcome window, drag a file onto the Welcome window, or use File ▸ New from Clipboard to start from a copied image.

Which formats can I export to?

Choose File ▸ Export… (⌘E) or click the export button in the toolbar, then pick a format and scale. PNG and JPEG at 1x and 2x are free. PDF and SVG export, 3x and 4x scale, and Export Selection Only are part of Qwing Pro.

What is Qwing Pro? Is it a subscription?

No. Qwing Pro is a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store — no subscription and no account. It unlocks PDF and SVG export, 3x and 4x export scale, and selection export. Choose Qwing ▸ Unlock Qwing Pro…, or pick any Pro option in the export sheet.

How do I restore my Qwing Pro purchase?

On a new Mac or after reinstalling, choose Qwing ▸ Restore Purchases… from the app menu while signed in to the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy. There is also a Restore Purchases button in the Qwing Pro window. If Qwing says no previous purchase was found, check that you're signed in with the right Apple ID.

I closed the main window. How do I get it back?

Choose Window ▸ Welcome Window. When no documents are open, clicking the Qwing icon in the Dock also brings the Welcome window back.

What is a .zdraw file?

.zdraw is Qwing's own document format. It keeps everything editable — shapes, text, styles, and layers. Qwing saves your document in place as you work, and you can reopen it any time with File ▸ Open…. To share your work with people who don't use Qwing, export it as PNG, JPEG, PDF, or SVG.

My export failed or came out empty. What should I check?

Qwing won't write an empty file and tells you why. If Export Selection Only is on, make sure something is selected (or turn the option off), and make sure the canvas isn't empty. If rendering fails, try a smaller scale or a different format. If the export includes a grid you didn't want, turn off Show Grid in the export sheet.
